It was about an hour into this walk that my friend Josh pointed out that we were climbing Cathedral Rock on Good Friday, a coincidence that had slipped my mind completely. It’s somewhat fitting though, cos this walk was about as close to a religious experience as a cynical agnostic like myself is going to have.
The Cathedral Rock hike is beautiful, but challenging, starting off as a gentle stroll alongside a riverbed, before increasing in incline up a series of ascending zig zags, before finally scaling the actual rock itself. It was gruelling to get there, but the views from the top are staggering – especially given how rewarding they are following the slog it is to climb up. A friend at work told me “I vomited on the way up, but worth it” – I feel that’s a pretty perfect endorsement of the hike.
